Github pays quite well especially in the EU and they are also willing to negotiate. Hence, we really like negotiating with Github.
Github offers sign on bonus but they are not very common and are dependent on the interview performance.
Also, recruiters at Github, at times, tend to overestimate the amount of refreshers an employee can get. So, you should be a bit cautious when estimating your pay.
Github offers performance bonuses as a part of its compensation and below are a few of the performance bonus targets:
Github is remote-first company. As for Github's remote pay, it's one of the few companies that doesn't discount pay heavily based on location.
Github usually doesn't require new employees to move as it is remote first. However, if you are asked to move, you should shoot for a minimum $10k+ relocation package.
Github’s most negotiable component is equity. On the other hand, the Github cash sign-on bonus is the least negotiable piece and base being the second most negotiable component.

Github doesn’t always require written offers but most of the time, it does. So, you should be prepared to show proof.
Github can go above band if you have a strong competing offer. Though, sometimes it is not possible because of budget constraints.
We haven't seen hiring managers have a large impact on negotiations at Github.
The hiring process for a software engineer at Github can have up to six stages: talent partner screen, take home, pairing exercise, a call with the hiring manager, , onsite, and finally the offer stage (this is where the Github offer negotiation begins).
Note: You can find articles on our blog comparing different interview prep resources: AlgoExpert vs Leetcode vs Interview Cake.
Google tends to pay a bit better than Github. For the E5 equivalent, Google’s base and equity can go up to $250k/year each whereas at Gitbub, the top of band base is $225k/year and equity is $200k/year.
Github offers standard benefits like health insurance, paid time off and retirement plans. That said, you should focus your negotiation on the monetary components like equity and base salary.
