We've negotiated $25M+ of Facebook (or Meta) offers in 2021. Don't leave $100K+ on the table.
Yes! If you know how to avoid the tricks Meta's comp team likes to play, then they are one of the best companies to negotiate with.
Meta dramatically changes the compensation bands for each component (e.g. base salary, equity, signing bonus) depending on where you live. The only exception is performance bonus targets. They pay based on market rate not cost of living (i.e. London, UK still pays poorly).
Meta offers a very competitive relocation package. It does vary based on distance traveled and number of people moving, but as a rough guide, international moves or a family moving is $10K-20K + flights, moving company, etc.
Equity is the most negotiable component of Meta's compensation package. It definitely has the widest band. For example, Facebook E5 SWE would be $550-$700K.
Signing bonus is a close second with E5 numbers ranging from $0-100K.
Very rarely. Meta will only ask if they have reason to believe you are lying - for example, if you say something suspicious or quote an unrealistic number (e.g. Google L5 offer at $1M equity).
For software engineers and other roles below E7, this is very unlikely. We have more success increasing client levels vs going above band at Facebook. This policy is in part because Meta top of band is typically higher than most competing offers.
Less so at Meta vs other companies because their central compensation team has 90% of the decision making power. This becomes less true for very senior levels. Also, you may not know your hiring manager because of Bootcamp.
has a unique set of negotiation policies. If you don’t have experience negotiating with them, you risk losing out on large amounts of money because of very small mistakes.
There are many of these rules you need to know to get the highest
